Thanks to the Phoenix New Times and Chow Bella for naming me one of Phoenix’s 100 Tastemakers. I’ve spent the past 3 years of my life working hard to change the perception of the food scene in Phoenix, promote local chefs and producers and in general just eating, drinking and being merry. It’s lovely that someone took notice. You can read my somewhat witty banter by clicking HERE.
My husband and I just left the San Fernando Valley last April for Surprise (gun laws, taxes, etc.).
You probably do not know, but there’s an AMAZING restaurant in Northridge called Alexis (husband and wife owners) that’s been around for ages (she’s a top pastry chef from Europe and is also responsible for the Portuguese part of the menu…she married the Greek chef-owner many years ago and added her pastries to their menu as well). My all-time favorite is her Chicken Piri-Piri which is her own version and is supposed to appear in her up-coming cookbook. (Her name is Fatima.)
We have not found ANYTHING to compare to this restaurant and I’d like to know if you have any ideas. The hard part is that, if there is anything like it, it’s probably in Phoenix which means that we’d have to be careful about drinking any wine with dinner if it would be a long drive (same with Scottsdale, of course.) Plus, Alexis was amazingly reasonable price-wise given their unbelievably high level of cuisine (freshness and perfection to the max).
We’d probably just be happy to find a decent place to have a good breakfast at this point.
Any ideas?
