Alright, so no goats were harmed in the making of this interview. I did however have a chance to ask Chef Stephanie Izard about her upcoming cooking and book tour aptly named the “Goat Tour.”
Izard is in town this weekend with the tour raising money for a charity that is incredibly near and dear to my heart, Share Our Strength. Enjoy a dinner on Sunday, October 16 put on by her and another big Share Our Strength supporter, Mr. Beau MacMillan. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
Susie: Why did you embrace Share Our Strength as the charity you wanted to benefit in Arizona?
Izard: I have worked with Share Our Strength in the past and can really appreciate the national charity they do. The entire Goat Tour is centered around raising money for Share Our Strength and achieving their goal of ending childhood hunger in the united states by 2015. Chefs working with organizations that aim to end hunger seem to be a good fit since both the charity and the chef community both have the same goal in mind, which is to feed people.
Susie: How important is giving back to your community to you as a chef?
Izard: It’s really important as a chef and business owner to be mindful of what is going on in my local community ad beyond. It is easy for us to have dinners, or do charity events where we provide food because we all love to cook.
Susie: When you are back in Scottsdale/Phoenix, where do you like to dine?
Izard: I love going to my friend Beau MacMillan’s restaurant Elements at Sanctuary Resort on Camelback Mountain. Other than that, I really just love trying all the new & different restaurants around town. Seems like there is always something new popping up.
Susie: What’s your favorite 3 restaurants in Chicago?
Izard: avec, The Bristol and GT Fish & Oyster.
Susie: When are you coming to AZ to open a restaurant?
Izard: Right now, I am perfectly happy where I am… (Hey guys, I tried to get the dirt here…)
